Terms of service
Last updated October 24, 2026
The short version
- Iffy gives you a second opinion on a text or email. It’s a helpful guess, not a guarantee.
- AI can be wrong. Before you pay, click, or share anything, check with the company yourself.
- You get 5 free checks a month. No account needed.
- We don’t save your photos or messages, show ads, or sell your information.
These terms are the rules for using Iffy at iffyapp.com. Iffy is a small, independent service run by its founder in Chicago, Illinois (“Iffy,” “we,” or “us”). By using Iffy, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Iffy.
What Iffy does
You take a photo of, upload, or paste a text message or email. Iffy uses artificial intelligence to read it and tells you whether it looks like a scam, which warning signs it noticed, and how scams like it usually work. When the message names a company we know, Iffy shows that company’s real contact information so you can check with them directly.
A second opinion, not a guarantee
Iffy’s answers are for information and education only. They are not legal, financial, or security advice.
- AI can be wrong. Iffy can miss a scam, and it can flag a real message as suspicious. Scammers change their tricks all the time.
- You make the call. Before you send money, share a code or password, tap a link, or call a number, check with the company or person yourself, using contact information you already trust.
- Company contact information comes from a list we check by hand. Companies change their phone numbers and websites, so if something looks different, use the number on your card, statement, or the company’s official app.
- Iffy is not an emergency service. If you think you’ve lost money or shared account information, call your bank right away. You can also report scams to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
Who can use Iffy
Iffy is meant for adults. You must be at least 18, or at least 13 with a parent or guardian’s permission. You don’t need an account to use Iffy.
Free checks and future plans
Everyone gets 5 free checks a month. Your count resets on the 1st of each month. To keep Iffy free and fair, we may limit checks per device or internet connection, and we may change the free limit.
We plan to offer paid plans later, such as Iffy Plus and Iffy Family. When they’re ready, we’ll add their prices, billing, and cancellation details to these terms before anyone is charged. If you get Iffy through the Apple App Store or Google Play, their terms for purchases and refunds will also apply.
Using Iffy fairly
Please don’t:
- Use Iffy for anything illegal, or to write, test, or improve scams.
- Upload messages you have no right to share, or anything harmful, hateful, or sexually explicit.
- Use bots, scripts, or other automated tools to send checks, get around the free limit, or copy Iffy’s content.
- Try to break, overload, or hack Iffy, or copy how it works.
- Use an Iffy answer to publicly accuse, shame, or harass a person or business.
We may block access for anyone who breaks these rules.
Your messages
The photos and messages you check are still yours. You give us permission to send them to our AI provider, Anthropic, only to produce your answer. We don’t save them. Our privacy policy explains the details.
Please cover up full account numbers, passwords, and Social Security numbers before you check a message. Iffy doesn’t need them to spot a scam.
Iffy’s name and look
The Iffy name, logo, design, wording, and software belong to us. You’re welcome to share your results and tell friends about Iffy, but please don’t copy the site or use our name or logo in a way that suggests we’re connected to you.
Services we rely on
Iffy uses a few trusted companies to work: Anthropic for the AI, Umami for anonymous visitor counts, Formspree for app waitlist sign-ups, and Gandi to host the site. Links to other websites, such as a company’s help page, are there for your convenience. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for them.
No promises beyond these
We work hard to make Iffy useful, but we provide it “as is” and “as available.” To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, including that Iffy will be accurate, complete, always available, or free of errors.
Limits on our responsibility
To the extent the law allows, Iffy is not responsible for any loss or damage that comes from using Iffy or relying on its answers, including money lost to a scam, missed messages, or indirect losses. If we are found responsible for anything, the most we will owe is the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.
If someone makes a claim because of you
If you break these terms or misuse Iffy and someone makes a legal claim against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable costs from that claim.
Changes to Iffy or these terms
We may change, pause, or stop Iffy at any time. If we change these terms, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. For big changes, we’ll also post a notice on the site. If you keep using Iffy after a change, that means you accept the new terms.
Which laws apply
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois and applicable U.S. federal law. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts in Cook County, Illinois, unless the law where you live says otherwise. If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
