Privacy policy
Last updated October 23, 2026
The short version
- We don’t store your photos or messages.
- You don’t need an account, so we don’t have your name or email, unless you sign up for updates.
- We never sell or share information about you, and we don’t show ads.
What happens when you check a message
When you tap “Check it,” your photo or pasted text is sent securely to our server and then to Anthropic, the company whose AI (Claude) reads the message. The answer comes back to your screen. Iffy does not save the photo, the text, or the answer.
Anthropic processes the message only to produce your answer. Under its commercial terms, it does not use it to train its AI, and it keeps it for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring before deleting it.
Please avoid sending photos that show full account numbers, passwords, or Social Security numbers. Iffy doesn’t need them to spot a scam.
What we do keep
- A random ID in a cookie, so we can count your free checks each month. It isn’t connected to your name or anything else about you.
- Counts of visits and checks per device and per internet connection, so the free limit works, the service can’t be abused, and we can see how many people use Iffy. Internet addresses are scrambled before they’re counted, so we never store your real address. Counts by internet connection are deleted after about two months, and all other counts after about a year.
- Anonymous page statistics from Umami Analytics, such as how many people visited, which pages they viewed, and roughly which country they came from. Umami uses no cookies, doesn’t track you across other websites, and doesn’t collect anything that identifies you.
- Your email address, only if you sign up for updates. We use it to tell you when the Iffy app is ready for iPhone and Android, and to send occasional Iffy news and scam warnings. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can ask us to remove you at the address below. The sign-up form is handled by Formspree, which passes your email to us. We never sell or share it.
- Standard technical logs kept by our web host for security, as every website has.
What we never do
- Sell, rent, or share information about you.
- Show ads or use advertising trackers.
- Call or text you, or email you asking for personal or account information. If you signed up for updates, our emails share news and tips only. If someone claiming to be Iffy asks you for information, it’s a scam.
Children
Iffy is meant for adults and isn’t directed to children under 13.
Changes
